You might not have come across this little bandit-masked songbird before. To be fair, its name doesn't exactly roll off the tongue - this is a 'Eurasian penduline tit'. Its elaborate name comes from the equally-elaborate hanging "pendant" nests they weave from animal fur, plants, wool, and spider webs. Although small, they build incredibly strong structures. Their nests can withstand winds of 80 kilometers per hour, and in the past were even made into children's slippers in parts of Europe. Right now the Eurasian penduline tit specifically isn't endangered, probably because humans don't have that much "use" for their reeded riverbank and marsh homes, but populations of other songbirds like them are suffering from habitat loss and illegal poaching. We need to safeguard the earth’s biodiversity and protect these tiny-but-mighty inhabitants. One way to do so is by donating all proceeds to Greenpeace.
