With their captivating orange eyes and flamboyant quizzical eyebrows, eagle owls are one of the most striking birds you might encounter on the Eurasian continent. Eagle owl numbers fell drastically throughout the 20th century. Many were killed accidentally in collisions with barbed wire and electricity pylons, and seen as threats to game species (birds hunted for sport), they were often deliberately shot or poisoned. Eagle owl populations are on the up since steps have been taken to reintroduce them. Today, if you’re very lucky, you might catch sight of one in woodland areas across Europe. We need to address the damage humans have done to help eagle owls and other birds like them. That’s why we will donate all proceeds from the release to the Heinz Sielmann Foundation.
